About Caroline B. Seligman, MA, LMSW

Hi, I’m Caroline (She/her)

I graduated from the University of Chicago in 2012 with my Masters in Clinical Social Work. There I studied to be a psychotherapist, with a special focus on neuroscience & psychodynamic theory and practice. My curiosity about a poorly understood condition called Misophonia is what motivated my interest in studying neuroscience. I’m interested in how the makeup of the brain shapes behavior and thought, as well as how we can shape the mind through modifying our behaviors, thoughts, and experiences. Neuroplasticity is the ability of the brain to be meaningfully, biologically changed by experience as the result of our interactions with our environment. But what about changing the body’s, specifically the nervous system’s, responses and patterns? After years of working with clients, I have learned the role the autonomic nervous system plays in mental health and especially in Misophonia management and treatment. This is where Polyvagal Theory come into play. I’m grateful to report that I have seen great success in my work with this population.

I am trained in traditional Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Somatic Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Biofeedback, and Polyvagal Theory. I also practice Transpersonal Psychology and have a history and training in Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy.

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
